Wednesday, November 4, 6 p.m.
“Highlights  from the Photography Collection: Portfolios”
The speakers  will address the creation and organization of the  portfolio By and About Women, which was created as  a fundraiser for the Lotus House Shelter. Photographer Peggy  Nolan, whose work is included in the portfolio, will discuss  her role working with residents of Lotus House and her  personal photographic endeavors. Constance Collins  Margulies, founder of Lotus House, will discuss the  initiative of working with artists to support a social  cause.
 
 
45th annual uf art faculty  exhibition lecture series
UF School of Art  and Art History faculty will highlight their research  interests and work in the exhibition. Enjoy a reception  afterward to speak with the presenters and continue  conversations.

Celebrate arts  at the University of Florida by attending Museum Nights. The  UF School of Theatre and Dance will perform solos throughout  the evening, and visitors may embrace their own creativity  by participating in art-making activities led by the MUSEs  (Museum University Student Educators). Work by UF faculty  will be on view in the 45th Annual UF Art Faculty  Exhibition.

, Foremost Practitioner and Private Teacher  of Ottoman Miniature Painting
and  Illuminations
Miniature painting is a highly  specialized field of Ottoman Turkish fine arts. As a form of  painting, it reached a peak in the 17th century within the  Ottoman Empire, but it was also popular in other regional  civilizations, most notably Persia. Ciddi will discuss this  and other topics during her lecture. This talk is  co-sponsored by the Center for European Studies.

Recycling in  African Art: Necessity, Metaphor, and Creative  Expression
Friday, November 13, 9 a.m. – 5  p.m.
Organized by Victoria L. Rovine, School of Art  and Art History/Center for African Studies, University of  Florida. This symposium will explore the aesthetics,  economics and paradoxes of recycling as an artistic practice  in Africa. Presentations by art historians, anthropologists,  artists and curators will address the reuse and reanimation  of objects in Africa and the African diaspora. For more  information click here.

“An Almost Unknown Masterpiece: Cecco del  Caravaggio’s `The Resurrection’ (1619 - 1620)”
Michael  Fried is a poet, art historian, art critic and literary  critic. He has long been engaged by questions of modernism,  realism, theatricality, objecthood, self-portraiture,  embodiedness and the everyday.

Wednesday, November 18, 6 p.m.
“The  Original Work of Art: What It Has to Teach in a University  Art Museum”
Jock Reynolds has been the Henry J. Heinz II  Director of the Yale University Art Gallery since 1998. He  oversees the oldest university art museum in North America,  which was established in 1832. He has emphasized true and  ready access to the collections of the Yale University Art  Gallery and has reached new and expanded audiences through  innovative approaches to permanent collection installations,  changing exhibitions and education. Before assuming  his position at Yale, Reynolds was director of the Addison  Gallery of American Art at Phillips Academy in Andover,  Massachusetts for 10 years.

In a collaborative  workshop between the Harn Museum and UF Performing Arts,  children attending the Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem concert  at the Phillips Center and the general public are encouraged  to participate in fun, musical activities at the Harn. The  activities begin at 5 p.m. and include drum decorating and  tambourine and harmonica making. The Dancin' Gators and  student members of the UF Choir will perform. Afterward,  Scott Kessel, daisy mayhem's drummer, will teach the  children about rhythm before they embark on a musical  instrument parade.
